Pop Jam Live Gold, all members interview April 1, 2005 youtube clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NjtTda2pGvY kalavinka's translation Background info: Pop Jam is a long running music show but I don't know about Pop Jam Live Gold (is it a segment of the show or the new name of the show?). Anyway, this particular episode is when Takanori Nishikawa is hosting. He makes music as TM Revolution (Takanori Makes Revolution), which may be a play on words for the old popular Japanese band TM Network. One of his side projects is Abingdon Boys School, who recorded a song for the Buck-Tick tribute album. [clip starts with historical live footage of the band 1985-2005] narrator: This year the band has been together for 20 years. The band that has shown us numerous legends is after a long absence finally making their appearance again on Pop Jam. host: First one of the new year and they asked me to host. The first guests for Live Gold, the members of Buck-Tick! [applause] host: Well, um, this set looks like a disgusting host club. [laughs] host: It really does. [turns towards Atsushi] How has it been, these past 20 years? Has it been like "ah~" afterall? [silent] host: Hey, I don't know who [inaudible: will answer? to ask?]. [pretends he is in a host club] Bring us the alcohol! [laughs] host: How has it been? Time passes quickly afterall? Atsushi: Are you asking me? host: I am asking the person who my eyes are looking at. Look at my eyes! [laughs] host: That's why, um has there really been a sense of doing as you please, um, really, not... Atsushi: It has been like "ah~" afterall. host: It has been like "ah~" afterall. Whew! How do you say? As your stance, this whole time, very much, what do you call it...I feel that it's been at very much our own pace this whole time. But, how do you feel? I'm wondering if it's not like that? Toll: It has been "my pace". host: Hasn't it? I'm glad Mr. Yagami. Someone who really lets words out of their mouth. [laughs] host: Um, well, 20 years has passed and now do you have any goals for the future? Or plans to refashion yourselves. You might have something going on, please everyone, tell me your thoughts on this. Atsushi: No, I haven't really thought much about what lies ahead, really. host: Even that is going with the flow, isn't it? "[I do it] when I think about it". Like being an actor and stuff. Atsushi: Actor? host: But! You might call it a movie... Atsushi: Ah, yes. host: ...that you were doing, right? Atsushi: Yes. My first point of business is definitely the band. host: Indeed. Atsushi: Well, a lot of opportunities have opened up for me. host: I see. What about Mr. Imai? Is there some sort of experiment you might say, or [topical?] ["toppii"] sense perhaps? It is amazing since it is instinctive. Hisashi: Well, naturally... host: Naturally. Hisashi: is how we do things. host: Is that really true? Hisashi: [nods] U-ta: I just think that it would be nice if we could continue to make good sounds for a long time. host: Mr. Higuchi is what, firstly, always this gentle, you know that earlier, when we met face to face, you had such an amazing gentle face. Not like Mr. Sakurai. [imitates Atsushi's stern face] [laughs] host: Like some evil guy... [laughs] host: So very kind. Atsushi: Is that so? host: It is so. Definitely. It is very much so. [laughs] host: Everyone is wrong! They don't eat hamsters like this. [mimes] [laughs] Atsushi: It's delicious! host: It's delicious? [laughs] You're gonna play along! Hide: Well, I just think it would be nice to continue playing. host: Very unassuming. Hide: Yes, thank you very much. host: I think that's wonderful. To be so "free" like that. [laughs] Hide: Free? host: It is free! You're streakers! ["furuchin"; or you might be so bold as to say "You've got your cocks out!"] [laughs] Toll: But, well, it's always been this way but I don't know if there's a name for it, but for us it has been just a series of living in the now. host: yes, yes... Toll: That is why we hold those moments precious and we work very hard to maintain that. host: yes... Toll: And that is why I can't say how many years we will continue. host: no, no... Toll: I think that I want to keep going until someone dies. [laughs] host: No, don't mention it. Well, if you don't mind, would the band please come again on the show? Atsushi: I think it's alright. host: Really? Atsushi: If you want us to. host: Wow! I understand. And that leads us to the new song, uh was it called "Chimidoro's Windmill"? ["Chimidoro No Kazeguruma"] [laughs] host: No, no..but there is such a song? I'm sorry about that. Who should I ask to introduce the song? [U-ta points to Atsushi] host: I should ask Mr. Sakurai. Sakurai, please look at this camera. [laughs as the camera wasn't ready] host: I'm sorry, please into this camera! And now Mr. Sakurai, please introduce the song. Atsushi: Into that one? host: Yes. Atsushi: Well, please listen to "Romance". [cut to clip of live performance of "Romance" which plays in its entirety] [end of clip] ***please note that they keep using the word "shizen" to describe the (lack of) methodology for Buck-Tick. shizen means nature, so they are saying the Buck-Tick process is done naturally. (They do not have strict plans, just live moment to moment.) I tried to translate it a bit different each time the word was used to get the full sense of the meaning.
