Lyrics

Lyrics are through 2012--need to add Arui Wa Anarchy, No. 0, The Mortal, Schaft second album

Transcription notes:
{words in braces} are what is being sung in the song but is not in the album's lyric booklet; these lyrics may come from other sources and will be noted. If the source is not noted then it's simply how I hear it and may be subject to inaccuracies. If I'm not sure what is being said, then I will put a ? mark.

(words in parenthesis) are backing vocals, notes, or samples.

In Japanese: [words in brackets] is the way the lyricist wants you to read the kanji and is not the traditional way nor is it usually even an acceptable way.

In English: [words in brackets] are the traditional way of reading the kanji or the original English of a word written in katakana in Japanese.

Translations: (if I bother to do it--I'm lazy and I think translations are dangerous) My goal is to be accurate but also to do so in a way that you can sing along. Not saying I get it right but I try to balance the following: 1. nit-picky via back translations (if I can translate it back into Japanese and it doesn't match the author's original words, then I will try to do a better translation in English) 2. syllabic matching (if the original line in Japanese was 10 syllables then I will try to translate it into 10 English syllables so you can sing along) and keep the English word in the same part of the sentence for sing-along purposes 3. not assume the author's intentions and make huge leaps in translations (the reader should be allowed to come to conclusions on their own) 4. keep the same tone: if the original lyrics were casual, dirty, slang, masculine, etc then I'll seek English words with a similar tone (here is where huge leaps may be made because the translator may color the translation with how they speak rather than how the author may speak if they learned English)

*Please note that males in Japanese often use a word for "I" which is masculine only and is often used in the lyrics presented here. This gendered nuance is not translatable in English.

it will transform into a lovely Dinner for you all

1. This is a play on words. The line states the seed (tane) smells. Earlier, Hide said to “tane akashi” (reveal one’s secrets). Tane means something different in each case but goes to talk about planting the seed. It’s similar to saying someone is a “bad seed” in English and then change seed to the literal meaning.
2. This is referring to the proverb by Chinese philosopher Zhuangzi, “i no naka no kawazu ooumi shirazu” (“a frog in a well does not know the great sea”).
3. This is referring to the children’s song “Hotaru Koi” (Come Fireflies) in which you sing about luring the firefly away from the bitter (dirty) water to the sweet (clean) water.
4. Henoheno moheji are letters from the Japanese alphabet used to make a drawing that resembles a face, as ubiquitous as a stick figure.
Note: I’m not 100% positive that “daiya” is “diamond” and “bura” is “bra” because it’s in katakana so it could be a foreign word (English) or it could be placing emphasis on a Japanese word. Plus, diamond is “daiyamondo” and bra is “burajaa”, but Japanese do cut off words. Since I’m not that familiar with how Hide of X Japan talked or wrote lyrics, I can’t be sure.

おまえの犬になる

遠藤ミチロウのカバーです。

歌詞: 遠藤ミチロウ

そこに居るのか 私がとどかない
目をつぶれば 背中が凍る
何も考えず おまえの犬になる

{ * I wanna be your dog }

鉛の夜に 血がまわる
私が欲しい
テーブルの上で 死んでみせる
何も考えず おまえの犬になる

踊り続けるおまえ 手のひら 冷たい
溶かしてあげる いつまでも舐めて {いつまでも舐めて}
Let Me Down
Let Me Out
何も考えず おまえの犬になる

お前は死ねない 首だけからませ
ガラスの蒸気だ 私は消せない {私は消せない}
鉛の夜に {鉛の夜に} 血がまわる
Let Me Down
Let Me Out
何も考えず おまえの犬になる

Cover of a Michiro Endo song.
Album: Romanticist ~The Stalin/Endo Michiro Tribute Album~ (This song is originally from “Vietnam Densetsu” [Vietnam Legend]. Also, it was supposed to be a cover of “I Wanna Be Your Dog” by the Stooges but was turned into an original song during the recording process.)
Lyrics: Michiro Endo

{ * repeat 4x }

So you are over there? / I cannot reach you over there
If one closes their eyes / their back will start to freeze
Without thinking about it / I’m gonna be your dog

{ * I wanna be your dog }

During the night of lead / the blood circulates
I want it, I want it
Up on top of the table / I will die for you
Without thinking about it / I’m gonna be your dog

You who continue to dance along / the palm of your hand is cold
I will warm it up for you / continuously licking^ {continuously licking}
Let Me Down
Let Me Out
Without thinking about it / I’m gonna be your dog

You who cannot die at all / just twist something around your neck
It is the glass of steam / I cannot erase it {I cannot erase it}
During the night of lead {during the night of lead} the blood circulates
Let Me Down
Let Me Out
Without thinking about it / I’m gonna be your dog

{ * repeat 4x }

^ the literal word for “lick” in Japanese also means in its most mildest terms, to be mean to someone such as to pick on them. Usually this is a fighting word and in such moments I tend to translate it with vulgar language, i.e., “don’t lick me” would be equivalent to “don’t mess with me” or “don’t fuck with me”.
